Lungsod ng Imus, Cavite (2019)

The connection was sparked in 2014, when the City Government of Cagayan de Oro hosted visiting officials from Imus, Cavite.

The two cities share a history as important battlegrounds in the Philippines’ fight and march towards independent nationhood. The Imuseños fought the Spaniards in the Battles of Imus (1896) and Alapan (1898). The Cagayanons in turn recorded the first victory of Filipinos against the Americans in the Battle of Macahambus in June 1900.

Both cities celebrate our country’s freedom and independence in their Wagayway (Imus) and Himugso (Cagayan de Oro) festivals.

The connection was made official with a sisterhood agreement in Cagayan de Oro in October 2019, with City Mayors Oscar S. Moreno and Emmanuel L. Maliksi signing.
