The City Government of Cagayan de Oro continues to keep communication lines open with the business community, ensuring that local enterprises remain informed, supported, and engaged as global developments begin to impact local conditions.

In recent weeks, the local government unit (LGU) joined industry-led discussions with key business groups amid rising concerns over fuel prices, supply stability, and increasing operational costs linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Recognizing that these global developments—particularly the conflict involving Iran—have far-reaching implications on energy markets and supply chains, the City emphasized the importance of dialogue, and informed and coordinated response.

Engaging Through Industry Platforms

On March 27, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber) hosted its General Membership Meeting, where City Administrator Roy Hilario P. Raagas and Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer John W. Asuncion engaged with business leaders on the evolving economic landscape.

This was followed by the April 10 General Membership Meeting of the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA), where City Administrator Raagas and Atty. Jose Edgardo Y. Uy, Co-Chair of the Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council (CDO CPCC), addressed sector-specific concerns.

A Coordinated and Grounded Response

During both engagements, City officials emphasized that while global factors are beyond local control, preparation, coordination, and communication remain firmly within the City’s capacity.

Discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to:

  • Strengthen price monitoring mechanisms through the CDO CPCC;
  • Ensure adequate supply and fair pricing of basic goods;
  • Align local actions with national measures addressing energy and supply concerns; and
  • Maintain reliable government operations through internal efficiency measures.

The City also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing longstanding support for business such as maintaining a business-enabling environment, promoting and facilitating investments, working to align government, industry, and the academe, and building the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises to scale up and expand to new markets.

Moving Forward Together

As global conditions continue to evolve, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro remains committed to working closely with its business community—through open dialogue, and proactive partnership. n
