Cagayan de Oro City welcomed over 400 delegates to the 2nd Mindanao Infrastructure Summit (MIS), happening today, October 22, and tomorrow, October 23, 2025 at the Xavier Sports and Country Club
Organized by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) in collaboration with national line agencies, development partners, and local governments across the island, the Summit serves as a major platform for government infrastructure agencies, private sector partners, and development organizations to report on the progress of flagship projects in Mindanao, highlighting innovations, and discussing the challenges of building resilient and inclusive infrastructure in the region.
In his Welcome Remarks delivered by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario P. Raagas, Mayor Rolando A. Uy expressed gratitude to MinDA for selecting Cagayan de Oro as the host city, emphasizing that infrastructure development is more than roads and bridges—it is about connecting people, markets, and opportunities.
“Cagayan de Oro is ready to be a partner in building a better Mindanao,” Mayor Uy said. “We are improving systems, data management, and coordination processes to make it easier for projects and investments to move forward, creating jobs and better lives for our people.”
The two-day summit gathers leaders from national government agencies such as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), along with development partners including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the World Bank, who will present ongoing and pipeline projects in transport, housing, broadband connectivity, and digital infrastructure.
Among the key topics for discussion are:
-
Mindanao’s transport landscape, port, airport, and railway investments
-
Flagship infrastructure projects for resilience and peace-building
-
Climate-resilient infrastructure and strategic PPP initiatives
-
Digital backbone and broadband mapping for a connected Mindanao
The Summit also features insights from distinguished speakers including DPWH Secretary Vicente “Vince” Dizon, DICT Secretary Henry Nhoel Aguda, and His Excellency President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who is set to deliver the keynote message.
Cagayan de Oro City, through its Trade and Investment Promotions Center (Oro-TIPC) under Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer (LEDIPO) and concurrent City Housing and Urban Development Department (CHUDD) Manager, John W. Asuncion, is an active participant in the event, promoting the city’s growing role as Northern Mindanao’s investment hub and gateway for infrastructure collaboration.
As Mayor Uy noted, “When government, private sector, and communities work together, good plans become real projects that change lives. Let this summit be a space for collaboration and shared progress.”
The 2nd Mindanao Infrastructure Summit reaffirms Cagayan de Oro’s place at the heart of Mindanao’s growth—a city connecting people, projects, and possibilities for a stronger and more inclusive island economy.
