Cagayan de Oro City formally opens Bulawanong Bahandi: The Kagay-an Creative Industries Month on September 18, 2025 at the City Museum and Heritage Studies Center, bringing together the city’s creative practitioners, partners, and supporters in a celebration of local talent and creativity.

City Mayor Rolando A. Uy, Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental OIC-Provincial Director and Kagay-an Misamis Creative Council (KaMi Creative) Chairperson Jesusa M. Abear are set to grace the opening program, manifesting their steadfast support for the city’s creative industry, which is now being developed as a vital part of business and economic growth.

At this afternoon's launch two major exhibits will be unveiled, curated by multidisciplinary creative and Kagay-an Misamis Creative Council Co-Chairperson Chris Gomez:

• CTRL+NIB – A vibrant juxtaposition of digital art, illustration, and emerging graphic design in Cagayan de Oro, featuring artists such as Alex Cipriano, Christian Loui Gamolo, John Bermundo, Karl Aguro, Meling Abuga-a, Pao Agpawa, Rose Anne Quirante, Ian Quirante, Shari Llamis, Deciri Braña, and Jan Buragay; 

• Constellation – A convergence of voices, visions, and materials, bringing together over 20 artists including Pip Sarballon, Maggie Ruth Candia, Genevieve Estrada, Christian Loui Gamolo, Alnel Manuel, Mark Brayan Tombiga, and many more; and

• Design Impact – Which features creative practitioners in the design domain.

The exhibits highlight the strength of collaboration and the diversity of creative domains that define Cagayan de Oro’s artistic landscape. Both are open to the public until October 15, 2025 at the Archbishop Parking Space (Dolores St.) and the City Museum and Heritage Studies Center.

The celebration continues at Magsaysay Park on September 19–20, 2025, with a 2-day Art and Trade Fair where everyone is welcome to enjoy performances, spoken word and book talks, a film showing, and an art drawing workshop. Local products, crafts, and haute couture pieces will also be on display, as well as an art at the park exhibit curated by local visual art luminaries Rey Gallardo and Oscar Floirendo.

Bulawanong Bahandi is organized by the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through the Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Center (Oro-TIPC), in partnership with the Kagay-an Misamis Creative Council (KaMi Creative).
