Cagayan de Oro City — His Excellency Ono Hirotaka, the newly appointed Consul General of the Consulate of Japan in Davao, paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Klarex Uy this afternoon, June 3, 2025, at the Cagayan de Oro City Hall.
The visit was part of the Consul General’s official trip to Northern Mindanao from June 3 to 5, 2025, aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and deepening engagement with key areas in the region.
During the meeting, Consul General Ono extended his personal congratulations to Mayor Uy on his recent re-election, recognizing the trust and confidence placed in him by the people of Cagayan de Oro. Both parties discussed the city’s economic and security landscape, as well as shared aspirations for deeper cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure, disaster resilience, and cultural exchange.
Mayor Uy welcomed the Consul General, who assumed office just three (3) weeks ago, and affirmed the city's commitment to fostering closer relations with Japan. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in advancing inclusive and sustainable development in Cagayan de Oro.

Following the meeting with the Mayor, the Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Center (Oro-TIPC), led by Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer (LEDIPO) John W. Asuncion and Assistant LEDIPO Raelita E. Legaspi, presented to Consul General Hirotaka, who was accompanied by Vice Consuls Oda Akari and Nakata Airi of the Consulate General of Japan in Davao.
