The four-day Philippine Coffee Roasting Competition 2024, organized by the Filipino Coffee Institute in collaboration with the local government of Cagayan de Or, was a success. This year, 22 participants from various parts of the country showcased their skills in preparing and using local coffee. The initiative included a series of educational events aimed at empowering coffee farmers and producers. A free seminar on "Essential Practices in Producing High-Quality Coffee" was held on June 11 from 8 AM to 12 NN, followed by a workshop on "The Art and Science of Roasting and Brewing" on June 14, also from 8 AM to 12 NN. These sessions provided valuable insights, techniques, and best practices from industry experts.
Mayor Uy expressed his pleasure that Cagayan de Oro was chosen for this prestigious competition. As part of the program, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between FCI President Jerry Cabalce and Mayor Uy for the establishment of the Cagayan de Oro International Coffee Research and Development Center. This agreement marked a pivotal step in enhancing the quality of coffee beans produced by local farmers and producers.
This collaboration and the proposed institute are set to transform Cagayan de Oro into a hub for world-class coffee production and research, benefiting the local community and the broader coffee industry.
