A special release by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) covering 16 pilot regions, 82 provinces, and 17 highly urbanized cities outside the National Capital Region (NCR) ranks Cagayan de Oro as the HUC with the 2nd highest per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2022 (PHP343,936), next to Baguio City (PHP420,016).
Cagayan de Oro bested eight (8) other cities in the top 10* (Lapu-Lapu, Iloilo, Bataan, Cebu, Laguna, Mandaue, Davao, and Batanes), all of whom registered per capita GDP higher than the national average (PHP178,751).
Per capita GDP roughly translates to “per person GDP), that is, the city’s GDP divided by the number of people in its population (adjusted for inflation or based on the constant prices of a base year). It is used as a general measure of economic well-being and standard of living, although it does not indicate income or wealth distribution.
