Mayor Klarex Uy proudly announced Cagayan de Oro City's achievement of being named the “Top 6 Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City” in the country this year.
Cagayan de Oro moved up one spot in its overall ranking, as it was the “Top 7 Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City” in 2023.
This recognition is based on the 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI), developed by the National Competitiveness Council with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The CMCI has five pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation.
This year, Cagayan de Oro was recognized as the 'Most Resilient City' in the country, earning the No. 1 overall ranking in the resiliency pillar. In terms of economic dynamism, the city ranked 9th, while it placed 7th in both the infrastructure and government efficiency pillars and 6th in the innovation pillar.
This year, Cagayan de Oro was also ranked as the 'Top 7 Most Improved Highly Urbanized City'.
The 'Top 10 Highly Urbanized Cities' in the country this year are as follows (in overall ranking): 1) Quezon City, 2) Manila, 3) Pasay, 4) Muntinlupa, 5) Iloilo, 6) Cagayan de Oro, 7) Davao, 8) Makati, 9) Pasig, and 10) Taguig.
The award was received by Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Officer John W. Asuncion and Acting City Planning and Development Coordinator Chedilyn Aissa Dulguime as representatives of the mayor, together with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-10) Assistant Regional Director Almer Masillones, during the Creative Cities and Municipalities Congress in the capital on Friday, August 23.
