28 June-1 July 2011

A delegation from Gwangyang City visits Cagayan de Oro to explore sisterhood ties with the city. The delegation was composed of Directors and representatives of Gwangyang’s Port and Trade Division, International Cooperation Team, Overseas Procurement Team, and Korea Foundation Volunteer Network.

27-30 October 2011

Cagayan de Oro pays Gwangyang City a return visit.  The delegation was led by then City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, and composed of heads and representatives of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and members of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber), as well as Promote Cagayan de Oro Foundation, Inc. (Promote CDO).

During the return visit, the parties signed a Letter of Intent to Establish Friendly Relations, as well as held a business forum, one-on-one meetings, and fellowship with the Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Cagayan de Oro and Gwangyang sign a Letter of Intent to Establish Friendly Ties.  The  signatories were then City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano, representing Cagayan de Oro  and then City Mayor Lee Sung Woong, representing Gwangyang City.

Gwangyang hosts a Business Forum for the Cagayan de Oro City delegation in the Briefing Room of Gwangyang City Hall.  The forum was attended by representatives from Gwangyang Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as officers of Korea Midland Power (a subsidiary of the Korea Electric Power Corporation, the largest electric utility company in South Korea), and POSCO’S (formerly Pohang Iron and Steel Company, one of the world’s largest steel manufacturing company) Gwangyang Steel Works. 

March 2012

Cagayan de Oro attends Gwangyang’s Plum Festival. The city sends a seven-member delegation composed of representatives from the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the City Tourism Board, and Promote Cagayan de Oro Foundation, Inc.

January 2012

Gwangyang sends cash and used clothing donations to Cagayan de Oro City in the wake of Tropical Storm (TS) Sendong.

28-31 October 2012

Mayor Lee Sung Woong visits Cagayan de Oro, signing the Friendship Agreement between Cagayan de Oro and Gwangyang cities.

22-25 October 2013

Cagayan de Oro participates in the Gwangyang International Exchange Cities Symposium under the theme, “International Exchange for Urban Sustainable Growth”.

Local Economic and Investment Promotions Officer Eileen E. San Juan, represents the Cagayan de Oro in the event.

April-October 2016

Cagayan de Oro participates in the Korea Heart to Heart (K2H) Fellowship Program of the Governors’ Association of Korea (GAOK).  Simonette F. Sagaral of the Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Office (Oro-TIPC) was the city’s participant to the program. She was assigned to the Gwangyang City government.

During their stay, the participants experience South Korean governance and culture firsthand.

Gwangyang City pledges to prioritize participants from Cagayan de Oro for the next two (2) years.

April-October 2017

Cagayan de Oro participates in the K2H Fellowship Program anew.  This time, Xsycylyn Faith B. Lumbatan of the Office of the City Council represents the city.

April-October 2018    - Cagayan de Oro participates in the K2H Program for the third year in a row with Timothy Andrew E. Salera of the Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotions (Oro-TIPC) representing the city.

18-21 September 2018

Cagayan de Oro participates in the 2018 Gwangyang International Sister Cities Symposium under the theme, “Economic Activation Measures for Sustainable City Development”.

Representing Cagayan de Oro are City Councilor Jay Roa Pascual, Chairperson of the City Council Committee on Tourism; City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Chairperson, City Council Committee on Education, Mr. Robertino E. Pizarro, then President of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oro Chamber); Atty. Antonio S. Soriano, Corporate Secretary of the Oro Chamber. They were joined in Gwangyang by Mr. Timothy Andrew E. Salera, of the Cagayan de Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Office (Oro-TIPC), who was then participating in the K2H Program.   

6 November 2019

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno welcomes delegates from Gwangyang City, South Korea, led by City Mayor Jeong Hyunbok, for an official visit to strengthen friendship and boost bilateral cooperation in various fields including economy, culture and education.

The Signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for Substantial Exchanges between Cagayan de Oro City and Gwangyang, South Korea, highlighted the visit.
